Michael Harwood Obituary

Michael T. Harwood, age 59 of Brecksville passed away peacefully April 12, 2022 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Deborah (nee Lendway) for 34 years; Devoted father of Emily and Daniel Harwood; Dearest son of Carole and the late Thomas Harwood; Loving brother of Patricia Miedl and Timothy Harwood (Erin); uncle, cousin, nephew and friend to many.

Mike was born and raised in Brecksville, OH where he graduated from Brecksville High School, as a former baseball and wrestling athlete. He went on to graduate from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Architectural Design and Construction. Mike then married the love of his life, former Falcon flame, Debbie, and resided in Brecksville near their families. He fulfilled a successful career, while most recently working as Executive Vice President of Rycon Construction. Mike treasured his time coaching and spectating at his children's many activities, cherishing the relationships created with players and their families. He looked forward to his annual golf trips, 29 years in a row, perfecting his golf game with his lifelong friends. Mike was a loyal season ticket holder for the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns, where he was constantly hoping that this would be their year. Mike devoted his time serving city government in his community, as Council President and represented the Planning Commission. He spearheaded some of the biggest and most successful projects Brecksville has undertaken in the past several years, such as the Aquatics Center addition, the new police station, the Fieldhouse at Blossom Hill, and the future site of Sherwin Williams Research and Development at Valor Acres. Mike valued family traditions and cherished his time with family and friends. Mike lived his life with enthusiasm and positive energy, expressing a big smile and will be deeply missed.

Mike was a founding member of the Cuyahoga Valley Youth Organization that pledges to foster sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership and integrity amongst youth in the community. The CVYO works to educate and develop players in various sports to promote commitment and dedication to the game, the team and the community. 

The Mike Harwood Memorial Scholarship fund will assist future high school graduates that have demonstrated these qualities. 

Friends will be received at NOSEK-McCREERY FUNERAL HOME, 8150 BRECKSVILLE RD., BRECKSVILLE, OH 44141 on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 3-8 pm. Mike's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 8700 Brecksville Rd. Brecksville, OH on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10:00 am (Please meet at church).
