Matthew R. Johnson

Matthew R. Johnson, age 59 of Brecksville passed away Friday, April 9, 2021. Beloved husband of Kimberly (nee Collins), loving father of Hannah (fiancé Logan Winkler) and Zachary. Dearest brother of Eric (Karen) and Kent Johnson (Jennifer, deceased). Cherished Stepson of Charlotte Johnson. Preceded in death by his father Robert Johnson and his mother Margaret Mihalyfi. Son-in-law of Linda and Howard Collins; Sister-in-law Michelle Collins. Uncle of Makenzie Johnson. Loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 

Matthew was truly one of a kind and he lived life to the fullest. He was passionate about his family, fishing, traveling, and of course, his prized 1955 Gypsy Red Chevy pickup. He loved to take leisurely drives in his truck through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park with his fishing poles in the back. He cherished traveling the world with his beautiful wife, Kim. From historical Rome to the sands of Key West and all of the places in between. After a 32-year award-winning career with Johnson & Johnson, Matthew looked forward to spending time sharing his love and companionship with all that touched him. 

Matthew made friends everywhere he went and could talk to anyone. He had this special power where he could make you feel like the most important person in the world. He knew how to listen, give advice and just make you feel so good about yourself. He always wanted to know about you. That was one of his purposes in life. Matt also knew how to make just about anyone laugh (whether you wanted to or not). He would have you laughing until tears rolled down your face. We know he will continue to do this as we all reminisce on some of these funny moments and memories. He had an incredible sense of humor that will live on for years to come. Matthew loved his children. His face would light up when he spoke about them. He called Hannah and Zachary his “pride and joys.” He was most at peace when his family was under one roof. 

If you knew Matthew, you knew he could light up any room he walked into (and probably hugged you). We know that’s exactly what happened when he walked into heaven and reunited with so many friends and family members. Life will never be the same without him but we know he will forever touch us. 

The family will receive friends at Nosek-McCreery Funeral Home, 8150 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville, OH 44141 on Friday, April 16, 2021, from 3-7 pm. A celebration of Matt's life will be held at Brecksville United Methodist Church, 65 Public Square, Brecksville, OH on Saturday, April 17 at 11 am. A virtual option of live streaming will be available at www.brecksvilleumc.com/streaming
