Jeanne Salzman Obituary

Jeanne Marie Salzman, (nee Corrin) age 91. Beloved wife of the late Harold T. "Ted"; loving mother of James A. (Amy), Daniel D. (deceased) (Sandy, surviving), Thomas M. (Carolyn) and Diane J. Howard; dearest grandmother of Stephen Salzman, David Salzman (Nicole), Amy Cartwright (Don), Hayley Klubnik (Greg), Jacob Vicars (Meghan), Timothy Howard (Stephanie), Nathan Howard (Kirsten), Dina Cicconi (deceased), Michael Cicconi, Abbey Meyer (Joel) and Dylan Smith; cherished great grandmother of Harper, Henry, Morgan, Madison, Elodie, Isaac, Leo, Knox, Peyton, Easton, and Rawlings; dear sister of Eileen Lucas and the late Margie Havansky.

Jeanne led a full life. From the outside, she may have seemed like the prototypical 50s/60s housewife and mother, June Cleaver without the pearls. The house was clean, the laundry done, food was on the table at 6. She was a little league mom (no such thing as soccer moms when her children were growing up) who would drive 4 kids to whatever they had going on, whether it was sports, instrument lessons, school events, and then sit and watch for hours. It probably appeared that her entire life was wrapped up in being a wife and mother. But outer appearances can be deceiving.

She was much more than this. Though she married shortly after high school, she had a passion for reading and learning. As her children entered adulthood, she started taking classes at CCC, initially just for the stimulation, then on to her associates degree. But it wasn't the pursuit of the degree that was as important as it was the chance to interact with ideas and others' perspectives; she liked to be challenged in her thinking.

It's why she liked to travel and meet other people in other cultures. She's seen the pyramids in Egypt, hiked in the mountains of California, walked the beaches of Costa Rica, peered into a Hawaiian volcano, and kissed the Blarney Stone, among many other highlights.

In the end, though, it was about family. And, to her, family was an inclusive term. She gathered family like flypaper gathers flies, and once you were in, you were in. After all the children were out of the house, she and her two sisters, usually spent Friday nights together, watching Blue Bloods, or a movie, and falling asleep before they ended. They would also travel to Florida most winters and spend a little time away from snow. She was a ringleader of the Girls' Weekend, where all the women in the family who were able to go would rent some cabins in the park and spend a multi-generational couple days together, just talking, laughing and having fun. She traveled with her children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren both inside and outside of the US, providing all with great memories.

She was the hub of the wheel of her family and will be greatly missed by all.
