Daughter to Harry S. Robinson and Ella Alta Stone Robinson

Born and raised in Pawling New York

Jeanne graduated from high school at 15¸ she was an outstanding student, active in theater and played piano at school and church and tutored a German student in English, who became a lifelong friend.

She graduated from Cornell University in 1940, with a degree in bacteriology.

Eloped and married James Wallace (Jim) Cowden in 1941. The couple settled in NYC after Jim was discharged from the army.

She worked for Hoffman's Brewery in NYC until daughter Bette Dale was born in 1943.  Son James Bruce was also born in New York in 1946.

The family relocated as Jim's work took him from New York to Denver to Chicago to Cleveland, where the family settled in Brecksville Ohio. Daughter Nancy Jeanne was born there in 1952.

Jeanne's accomplishments ranged from being a gourmet cook (her dinner rolls were requested by all family and friends), a talented seamstress (knitter, quilter) to organic gardening. While in Chicago, she created jewelry and developed a business that expanded nationally in response to the drabness of wartime apparel. After moving to Cleveland, she worked as a bookkeeper for Wallpaper Distributors and also edited medical manuscripts. She was active in her church, the Brecksville United Church of Christ, Ohio. She enjoyed travel and she and Jim visited most of the 48 states, as well as Kenya, Ireland and the Caribbean. She found time to study French, money management, and took interior design classes. She loved her family and her pets, and outdoor life.

She is survived by daughter Bette Dale Petrides (George, deceased) son James (Mary Ann, nee Weist) daughter Nancy Moore (Dr. Tim), five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Brecksville United Church of Christ, 23 Public Square, Brecksville, OH on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 1:00-2:00 pm where Jeanne's funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. Interment Brecksville Cemetery.
