Paul Ruess Obituary

PAUL F. RUESS, age 85 passed away Monday, December 10, 2018. Beloved husband of Theresa S. Ruess (nee Seibert) for 21 years and the late Patricia Ruess (nee Morgan). Loving father of Michelle P. Jackson (Thomas). Devoted grandfather of Joshua and Jenna Jackson. Dear son of the late Donald and Marcella (nee Krawetzki) Ruess. Dearest nephew of Luella Krawetzki. Brother-in-law of Barbara and Adolph Mausser. Uncle of Margaret (Mark Talarek), Susan (Thomas Monahan), Cynthia (Danny Turek) and Families.

After high school graduation, Paul enlisted in the Air Force and served four years, followed by an extended career with the Sandusky Register newspaper. He was a visionary and was instrumental in furthering the newspaper subscriptions to Sandusky and outlying cities. He also created contests that rewarded the carriers with trips to Disneyworld, OSU football games, and even the chance to win a car. Paul was given several national awards for his leadership and creativity. Paul belonged to Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Brecksville and was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky, Ohio.  He was also a member of the following clubs: Elks 285, the Masons (SIngara Grotto), The American Legion, and the Moose.

Paul loved his family, and was a strong caregiver to his wife Pat for over 13 years when she became ill and then died. He then met the second love of his life, Theresa, and they built a wonderful life together for over 21 years. He was able to finally enjoy travelling, trips and other social events with her until his own health began to fail with his disease PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). Even during his worst times, Paul’s mind was sharp and he never forgot the smallest details.

Paul was proud of his daughter Michelle, and never missed an opportunity to attend her activities in high school and the Ohio State University. He and Pat loved going to OSU football games and seeing her march in the OSU Band. He convinced Pat to go to the Rose Bowl in 1985, which was a big accomplishment as she never wanted to fly!  His love of the Buckeyes was so strong that he even convinced Theresa to go to the games (a first!) Paul also loved his two grandchildren fiercely, travelling to Columbus to see them in their school activities and spending time together going to the zoo, Kalahari Park, Sea World and other adventures with Grandma Theresa.

Lastly, Paul enjoyed his many friends and the joy they had together: laughing, playing cards, going to the theatre and playing tricks on each other. His favorite past time was dining out at fine restaurants! He loved Theresa’s “bakery and sweets” and that continued up to the time he died. He was a special man and he will be missed by his friends and his family.
