Kathryn L. Cook (nee Wornoff) age 74 of Independence, beloved wife of Daniel for 53 years, succumbed to a brief battle with cancer on September 4th. Loving mother of Jonathan Cook (Gina), Julie Lehmann (Phillip), Benjamin Cook (Sarah), and the late Christopher, age 13 and Matthew Cook, who died hours after his birth; Dearest grandmother of Justin and Lucas Cook, Arthur and Dorothy Cook, and Emma Grace and Magdalene Lehmann, she is survived by her two brothers Henry “Hank” Wornoff II and Robert “Bob” Wornoff.
She was a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a cousin, an aunt, and a friend to many.
From her earliest days she had a tomboy spirit, enjoying fishing, horseback riding and a variety of nature loving activities. She was a graduate of Hoban Dominican High School, class of ‘62. She then became an X-ray technician at Marymount Hospital and would later become a foreign student advisor with Kaplan Educational Center. Later in life she enjoyed attending the Encore classes at Cuyahoga Community College and was a proud member of the Red Hat Society.
She held a childlike sense of humor, enjoying playful teasing and silliness and was known to eagerly make friends with everyone who came into her orbit. One of her greatest joys in life was being around and interacting with all children she encountered. Throughout her life, she was an avid reader, a lifelong learner, and a beloved member of the community. She was a sympathetic friend to everyone she met and a caring mother-figure to many.
Her strong faith carried her through the losses of her sons, her parents and other loved ones who had passed before her. During her final days she expressed contentment and acknowledged the beautiful life she had, while looking forward to joining the loved ones she had missed.
Kathy’s final message to everyone was “I tried… and I loved you all"
